Your first class in 5 steps
How to get started
Pick your style
Not sure where to start? Hip Hop is great if you love grooves and party moves. Commercial is high energy and great for fitness. Heels builds confidence (sneakers are fine in beginner class). Lyrical is for expressive movers. Every style has a class with no experience needed.
Grab the $49 intro week
New students get 7 days of unlimited classes for $49. It's the best way to try every style and find your favourite – from as little as $4 a class.
Book your spot
Book on our timetable or in the Momence app. Classes can fill up, so booking ahead secures your place. You can also pay at the door if there's room.
Arrive 10–15 minutes early
Come early to check in, meet your teacher, pop your bag down and settle in. Tell your teacher it's your first class – they'll look after you.
Dance, laugh, repeat
Nobody nails it the first time – it's not a competition. Have fun, try your best and come back next week. Things click faster than you think!
What to bring
Pack your dance bag
Clothes & shoes
Wear clothing you feel comfortable and confident moving in. Clean sneakers work for Hip Hop, Commercial and beginner Heels.
For Heels class
Heeled boots or stilettos with ankle support (we love VAMP Heels). Skip wedges and strappy heels without ankle support.
Water bottle
Classes are a workout! Bring water and a light snack if you're coming straight from work.
Bring a friend
Nervous? Dancing with a friend makes it even more fun – memberships include free friend passes.
In the room
What happens in class?
- Warm-up – get the body moving and ready.
- Technique & grooves – the building blocks for the style.
- Choreography – learn a routine, broken down into small sections.
- Run it & film it – put it all together. Most classes are recorded so you can watch your progress in Class Footage.
Studio etiquette
The V-Hub way
Be on time
Arriving late means missing the warm-up. If you're running late, let us know.
Phones away
Stay present in class – we'll film the routine at the end.
Lift each other up
Cheer each other on, laugh at the wobbly moments and celebrate every win. That's the hub.
Beginner FAQs
Nervous? Read this
I have zero experience. Will I be the only beginner?
Not at all! Most of our dancers started exactly where you are. Beginner classes teach foundational moves step by step in a fun, safe space.
What if I can't keep up?
That's completely normal. Our teachers break choreography down and give each student attention while moving the class forward. Just enjoy it – you'll be surprised how quickly you improve.
Am I too old to start dancing?
Never! Our adult classes welcome dancers from 15 years and older, and we have plenty of members who took their first ever class in their 30s, 40s and beyond.
How often should I come to see progress?
For beginners, 1–2 classes a week is ideal. It builds muscle memory and confidence without feeling overwhelming. Once you're hooked, an unlimited membership gives the best value.
Where do I park?
There's limited street parking on McLachlan Street and nearby streets, or use Secure Parking on Berwick Street, Fortitude Valley.
